R2 - The Emotional Power Of Radio

It's official - Radio makes people happy

Listening to the radio makes people happier and gives them higher energy levels than watching TV or browsing the internet, new research has found. The latest research found by the RAB and Sparkler, shows that the UK's three largest media (TV, Radio and online) all play a crucial role in lifting the mood of the nation and making people feel happier and more energetic. And we are not just talking about major events like the Royal Wedding or the Champions League final. Our study found that Radio, TV and online all lift people's levels of happiness and energy on a daily basis - all day, every day.
The project by Sparkler Research on behalf of the RAB surveyed 1,000 consumers by their smartphones, asking what media, if any, they were listening to or watching and to rate aspects of their mood from -5 to 5+. In the smartphone surveying, Radio came out above TV and online for lifting happiness and energy levels. Compared with those consuming no media at all, Radio helped raise happiness by 100% and perceived energy by 300%. However, watching TV and surfing the internet also significantly lifts people’s happiness and energy levels, but didn't beat the positive effect Radio listening has. Mark Barber, planning director at the Radio Advertising Bureau said that: “People are the happiest and most energetic when listening to radio. It plays an important emotional role in people’s lives."

Radio makes you happy
We all know that we react better to things when we’re happy. Ask someone something when they’re annoyed or tired, and the answer will be very different than if they’re happy and energised. That’s almost so obvious it’s not worth doing any research into. And that same person must have also realised that Radio – particularly Breakfast Radio, which is designed in many ways to put you in a good mood for the day ahead – might have an advantage over other media. A spokesman said: ‘Radio listening reached its highest level ever recorded in the first quarter as 47.3 million adults or 91.6 per cent of people aged 15 or above tuned in to their favourite radio stations each week. This shows that more and more people are listening to the Radio, also, a report said that: ‘Radio is chosen as a lifestyle support system, to help people feel better as they go about their daily lives. Rather than the peaks and troughs that people have claimed to experience with TV and the internet, radio provides a consistent environment themed and shaped to suit the listener’s needs  at any given time of day, and one that is generally upbeat in tone.’ To conclude, more and more people use Radio as a lifestyle support system and to make themselves feel better about their lives as latest research shows the impact on Radio.
Stay smiling! :)

R1 - Independent Research

One of my favourite hobbies is listening to the Radio Station as I love listening to music. One of my favourite Radio Station is Capital  FM. which is owned and operated by Global Radio. Capital FM is where you can listen to it online, or digital and it is the UK's number one hit music station and also has 7.1 million listeners. It plays all the latest hit music, artists news, music events and many more. It is hosted by many different presenters such as Will Cozens, Rich Clarke, Craig David and more. The stations were formally owned GCap Media and Chrysalis Radio.

On 3rd July 2012, Capital FM launched their own channel on Sky and Freesat which can be also watched can also be watched on iOS apps, as well as online. Capital TV is aimed at a younger target audience which plays non-stop music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and also features some exclusive content, such as the Jingle Bell Ball.

Every year, Capital holds a Jingle Bell Ball every December at the O2 Arena where famous artists such as Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Usher, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Tinie Tempah and many more.

As well as being a Radio Station, Capital FM also has their own charity called 'Help a Capital Child' where they provide practical and lasting support to groups working with thousands of youngsters aged 18 and under. It helps many support groups for children and young people with a disability, special need or an illness, as well as a range of sports, music, drama and leisure activities, holiday play schemes and residential breaks in the UK, cultural activities, supplementary schools, literacy programmes and much more. It has been 36 years and the charity has raised in excess of £22 million and awarded grants to areas of great need, directly helping over 1.4 million children and young people and was also the winner of Outstanding Contribution to London Lifestyle at the London Lifestyle Awards in 2010.
